Climate change is real, and as a company we’re always looking for ways to do our part to reduce greenhouse gases and push toward greater sustainability. Just this past year, we’ve shifted our entire production to a 100% wind powered facility and we’ve been a 1% for the Planet member since day one. These are only a few small steps forward, but every step forward counts, especially if everyone participates.
Last Friday, September 20, 2019, a reported 4 million people participated in a global climate strike to shed light on climate change issues and urge the UN, governments and organizations to take action.
In light of these events and as part of our ongoing Source-to-Soul™ Impact Philosophy, we are excited to announce and introduce carbon neutral delivery.
With carbon neutral delivery, during the checkout process on our website, you have the option to offset the carbon footprint created from the delivery and shipping of your purchase for less than a dollar. It’s a simple way to make an impact, and we are proud to bring this option to the Kuju community.
With this option, we will calculate the carbon footprint of your delivery based on package weight and delivery distance. Then your order will be paired with a carbon offset, which could include traditional carbon offsets, like reforestation or renewable energy offsets from wind and solar facilities.
What is Carbon Neutral Delivery?
By choosing carbon neutral delivery, you are offsetting the carbon footprint from your shipment with a small financial contribution that goes toward renewable energy or projects that help eliminate carbon emissions. For example, the Garcia River Forestry Project in Mendocino, California aims to sustainably manage the forest that traps an estimated 77,000 carbon emission tons annually. Typically, your contribution will match to a project that is nearby the delivery destination.
The cost to offset the footprint from the shipment of our pour overs is usually less than a dollar. The amount varies depending on the size of your shipment since the carbon footprint from different package sizes vary. And to be clear, we take none of your contribution.
In addition, you are able to see what project your contribution will go toward. By clicking on the underlined link labeled “carbon neutral delivery” in the option selector, you are taken to a page that outlines the project your contribution supports along with how many lbs of carbon you will be offsetting.
